Beach or Bay?

I was barely home before embarking on my next adventure. Every summer since I was a kid, I have gone to the Jersey Shore to visit family, but this year was different in that it wasn't some quick 2 week vacation anymore - I had planned to live with my cousin and best friend, Kelly, for the remainder of the summer.

I surprised my cousin by flying out a couple of day early. For the first two weeks, my family stayed in a house in South Seaside Park along the Bay; the house neighbored my cousins, so it wasn't a surprise when we passed items across the fence that separated our backyards or made a can/string communication system from her room to mine.

In the first two weeks, we did as we always do; we launched fireworks (slightly illegal?) by the bay for the Fourth of July, biked to the beach on 21st Street most of our days, visited Aunt Lolo in Lavalette, and took Camille and Frank's wave runners out for a spin. We watched the sunsets, enjoyed sushi while watching The Bachelorette, went to Point Pleasant for Lily Pulitzer and Joe Leone's shopping, saw a Broadway show in New York, made a quick appearance at our Uncle George's annual party, and occasionally took the jeeps out to Island Beach State Park for a bonfire. Oh, and of course we found a mansion for sale, went to the open house, and joked that we were all going to buy it together the rest of the week.

But soon after, my mom and brother were leaving to go back home, and I was moving into Kelly's beach house, where our fun continued! I stayed with my Aunt Maggie in Hopewell while Kelly was at field hockey camp, but the rest of the time, we stayed in Seaside Park. We went to the beach everyday, biked to the boardwalk to ride on the coasters, saw the "Battle at Midway" Lifegaurd Competition, did puzzles and crafts when our cousin Abbey came to visit, and had weekly dinner parties with our family and friends.

They always say "time flies when you are having fun," and I can honestly agree; it felt like summer went by in a flash. My mom flew out for her birthday weekend, and together we went back to Colorado, where I will start my senior year in less than two weeks. Between Europe and New Jersey, it was definitely a summer to remember.
